Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain today stressed the importance of a human rights-based approach to counter-terrorism, warning against the political misuse of security measures and highlighting Bangladesh’s ongoing reforms to protect fundamental freedoms.

He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, while emphasizing the country’s commitment to global security cooperation and compliance with UN conventions.

Hossain made the comments in a statement at a high-level conference on “Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Creating Flexible Border Security Mechanisms” in Kuwait, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In his address to the ministerial session, he called for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in security and border management, stressing that AI must respect human rights and adapt to local conditions.

Hossein also called on countries with advanced technologies to share experiences, contributing to the development of a globally coordinated approach to combating terrorism.

The Advisor emphasized the essence of multilateralism in the fight against terrorism, noting that true security is achieved only when every society is protected.

“In today’s interconnected world, no society is truly safe until every society is safe,” he affirmed.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-level conference marks the fourth iteration of the Dushanbe Process, an initiative launched in 2018 to promote cooperation on counter-terrorism and border security among Central Asian countries.
