Winter Programs and Events at the Kennett Library

KENNETT SQUARE – The Kennett Library is entering a new season with a calendar full of programs and events. December, January and February are filled with programs and events that fuel the enthusiasm and inspiration of the community.

Chris Manna, Executive Director, said: “It may be cold outside, but the programs at Kennett Library are sure to warm your heart and bring you great enjoyment this winter. Be sure to stop by our Bayard Taylor Room after your visit and take a moment to warm up in front of the fireplace!”

This season, the library will feature programs that inspire exploration and creativity. Celebrate the season across cultures and languages ​​during the Kennett Library’s Winter Warmth Holiday Concert on December 4th! The concert will feature a variety of local choirs, songs, readings and performances.

In December, the art gallery will feature local artists Lou Florence, Jeff Schaller, Donna Melton, Polly Davis Chalfant and Cindy Losco. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, December 5th at 5:00 p.m. In January, the gallery will feature Max’s works from the library and their astronomical photographs. In honor of Black History Month, Dane Tillman’s work will be featured at the gallery in February.

Meet the Author, a thought-provoking author series featuring a new author each month, exploring a variety of genres, human experiences, narratives and themes, will feature Kate Braithwaite in January and Katie Brennan in February.

Bayard Taylor, the library’s previous namesake, would have turned 200 years old this coming year. In honor of his birthday, the library will host an open mic night on January 9 to celebrate all things literary.

The Makerspace will feature a variety of hands-on activities and workshops for all ages, including robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting and coding.

Dr Chris Penny, Director of Innovation, said: “This winter we are excited to welcome our community to a season of new Makerspace programs at Kennett Library. Every Friday afternoon, the Friday Maker Lab at the Adult Makerspace offers visitors the opportunity to explore a variety of creative projects, from laser-etched glassware to personalized 3D-printed keychains. For our young makers, Mini Construction Saturdays at the Children’s Makerspace will spark curiosity with hands-on activities such as coding with Indi Robots and building with LEGO Education sets. Meanwhile, Studio Saturday in our AV Lab provides a dynamic space for exploring virtual reality, podcasting and digital art. We look forward to a season of exploration, creativity and inspiration for creators of all ages.”

Environmental programs include Sew Green, which includes projects to recycle old clothing for new uses, and Meadowitos CAN DO! Workshops will be held where participants will learn how to collect and store seeds of perennial plants, as well as how to create small greenhouses for growing seeds.

Live Better, the library’s health awareness initiative, is hosting a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 9 a.m.

Families can look forward to a full lineup of children’s programming day and night! Join the Kennett Library and Theatre, Body and Movement Garage. These classes aim to help students practice theater through a variety of activities including theater games, body movement exercises, character creation, and ultimately stage performance.
