Aho, Staal and Martinook will help the Caines deliver 1,700 turkeys to local families

RALEIGH, North Carolina – Doug Wharf, president of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will be delivering turkeys to local families on Tuesday ahead of Thanksgiving. Jordan Staal, Sebastian Aho And Jordan Martinook will be available to help distribute turkeys to Helping Hand Mission and Wake County Urban Ministries.

“Our organization is very proud to provide turkeys to our community every Thanksgiving.” said Carolina Hurricanes President Doug Wharf. “Thanksgiving is a time when people come together to express gratitude and give back, and we are happy to help those families in the Triangle who are struggling to provide a filling meal for the holiday.”

In addition to feeding local families, the Hurricanes are donating 200 turkeys to the Asheville-based MANNA FoodBank. A partnership with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina will help deliver these turkeys in time for the holiday.

The turkeys will be cooked and served to individuals and families on Thanksgiving or given to community members for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Additional support for the donations was provided by the Hurricanes’ Tickets for Turkeys campaign, which raised funds through the purchase of tickets to Canes home games.

This marks the fourteenth year of the Hurricanes’ partnership with the Helping Hand Thanksgiving Mission, the seventh year with the Raleigh Rescue Mission, the sixth year with Wake County Urban Ministries and the Interfaith Food Shuttle, and the fourth with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Supplies from Turkey have resulted in thousands of donations to local non-profits to support our community and help provide nutritious meals for Thanksgiving.

In addition to donating turkeys, the Carolina Hurricanes held a food drive in early November to help provide food to those in need this holiday season. They collected more than 750 non-perishable items that were donated to Interfaith Food Transport, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and Wake County Urban Ministries.
