What will happen to the petition calling for a new general election, which has been signed by almost 2 million people?

More than 1.96 million people have signed an online petition calling for a repeat general election and Parliament is now scheduled to debate it this week.

The petition was fueled by support from Elon Musk, who tweeted “wow” in response to the petition passing the 200,000 mark in six hours.

Michael Westwood is behind the petition. He called for “another general election” in protest against the Labor administration, saying the government had “backtracked on the promises it made in the run-up to the last election”.
