2024 US Presidential Election in Kansas: Voting, results information, candidates and everything you need to know

Kansas, considered a “safe Republican” state, will vote on November 5 along with the rest of the country in the 2024 US presidential race.

On Election Day, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and former Republican President Donald Trump will compete for Kansas’ 6 electoral votes. Voters will also decide several other federal and state elections. According to the Kansas government, Kansas has a population of 2.94 million with 1,994,621 registered voters. Early voting began on October 16, and as of November 1, approximately 576,610 voters had already cast their ballots.

In national elections, Kansas overwhelmingly supported the Republican Party. Of the 15 presidential elections since 1960, Republican candidates have won Kansas 14 times, with the only Democratic victory coming in 1964.

A recent poll from the Docking Institute at Fort Hays State University shows Republican nominee Donald Trump leading Democratic challenger Kamala Harris by five points among likely voters, with 48% planning to vote for Trump and 43% planning to vote for Harris. In terms of broader support, Trump has 57.7% voter support, while Harris has 42.3%.

Both U.S. Senate seats in Kansas are held by Republicans, and neither is on the ballot this year. Republicans have strong majorities in both the state Senate and House, but Democrats could break those supermajorities by picking up a few seats. All 40 state Senate seats and 125 state House seats are up for election in November.

Kansas has four seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, three of which are held by Republicans. Three incumbents are seeking re-election. In the 2nd Congressional District, which is open due to the retirement of Rep. Jake Laterner, Democrats Nancy Boyda, Republican Derek Schmidt and Libertarian John Hauer are running. In the 4th District, Republican Ron Estes will face Democrat Esau Freeman, and in the 1st District, Republican Tracy Mann will face Democrat Paul Buskirk. In the 3rd District, Democratic Rep. Sharice Davids is defending her seat against Republican Prasanth Reddy and Libertarian Steve Roberts.

In 2020, Donald Trump won all of Kansas’ electoral votes with 56% of the popular vote.
