America’s No. 4 Quarterback, Five-Star LSU Football Ends Recruiting

America’s No. 4 Quarterback, Five-Star LSU Football Ends Recruiting

Missouri City (Texas) Hightower guard Cade Phillips switched his commitment from the Texas Longhorns to Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers in August after the program turned up the heat.

Phillips, the No. 4-rated guard in America, reached five-star status in the latest recruiting rankings after a dominant senior campaign.

Now, the coveted prospect has stopped recruiting and will sign with the LSU Tigers during the early signing period, he told LSU Tigers On SI.

“I’m just ready to go to Baton Rouge,” Phillips said.

With the recent news that five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood has switched his commitments from the LSU Tigers to the Michigan Wolverines, it’s no secret that the LSU program is in a vulnerable spot.

Since the news broke, programs have been trying to flip other prospects committed to the Bayou Bengals.

That included five-star guard Cade Phillips.

Reports recently surfaced that Phillips was set to head to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, with Steve Sarkisian and company insisting he return to the program.

Phillips confirmed to LSU Tigers On SI that he did not visit Texas. this weekend and stayed home on Saturday. The five-star prospect will return to Baton Rouge next weekend for an unofficial visit to LSU to complete the recruiting process.

The Longhorns saw a vulnerability in the program, upped the ante for Phillips and ultimately saw the No. 4 quarterback in America remain committed to the LSU program.

Phillips will now return to Baton Rouge for the Oklahoma game next weekend at Tiger Stadium.

This is a huge part of the future of the LSU program. The five-star prospect is defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and company who was at the top of their 2025 Big Board and the Tigers ended it at the 11th hour.

“Cade has some of the best physical attributes we’ve seen at a corner position in the 2025 cycle. He’s a guy of elite length and big build. At this size, he can actually move. He was a state finalist in the long jump at Texas and you see that athleticism on the field,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power said.

… I really like him as a corner. He has a versatile position and is capable of playing corner or safety at the next level, but we think the length, speed and ball skills he displays as a two-way player at the high school level translates really well to corner.”

For Phillips, the decision to transfer from Texas to LSU was easy as the program continued to stay in touch. Not to mention the “Corey Raymond” factor.

“LSU has been on me since they first offered me,” Phillips told On3. “It had been a while since I had been to Texas and they were still texting and calling me almost every day. The (LSU) coaching staff stayed with me even after I accepted.”

“I feel like I can really grow into something big,” he added. “And it means a lot to be able to coach me under Coach Raymond. He really played a big role in my recruitment by never losing hope and looking at me and calling me every day.”

Now LSU has secured Phillips’ services after heavy pressure from the Texas Longhorns. He will sign with the Tigers during the early signing period on December 4th.
