56% of Dare County voters have already cast ballots

The North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) reports that a record number of North Carolinians—more than 4.2 million—voted in the 2024 general election during the in-person early voting period that ended Saturday, November 2.

According to NCSBE, as of Sunday, November 3, 4,465,548 voters had cast ballots including absentee voting. That’s 57% of the state’s 7.8 million registered voters. The 4.2 million voters easily surpassed the more than 3.6 million votes cast during the same period in 2020.

In Dare County, early voting rates are very close to the state average. Overall, 56.4% of eligible voters have already cast their ballots, with the vast majority – 18,106 – doing so through early in-person voting and the remainder by mail.

In Currituck, 41.7% of eligible voters have already cast their ballots, with 9,874 people voting early in person. In Hyde County, 38.1% had voted so far, with 1,147 people voting early in person.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host a presentation that will provide an update on the current response efforts and provide information about the Recovery Advisory Council. An open day will follow the presentation.

The Buxton Naval Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) facility was used by the United States Navy as a submarine monitoring station. The US Coast Guard subsequently used the property until it was returned to the National Park Service. USACE is conducting a response to remove visible oil-contaminated soil and is conducting confirmatory soil sampling of areas along the beach and dunes that have an odor and sheen.

Follow-up activities include comprehensive soil and groundwater sampling in the project area to determine the nature and extent of oil contamination.

USACE will hold a meeting November 4, 2024, from 19:00 to 21:00. at the Fessenden Center located at 46830 NC Highway 12, Buxton, NC 27920.
