LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – We’ve seen a lot of unique Halloween costumes throughout southwest Louisiana this week.

Jellyfish and Slinky from Toy Story are the costumes that Becca Landry was commissioned to make for her two children.

“So I’ve literally never done anything in my life. I had been hemming a pair of pants before, so I was definitely taking on more than I thought I could handle,” Landry said.

After searching Pinterest several times for inspiration, Landry began designing both costumes and completed them in just under two weeks.

“It was really easy because felt is so easy to work with,” she said. “I wasn’t too bothered by it, but this one was completely hand-sewn from head to toe. I sewed everything by hand, broke maybe six needles, and stabbed myself about 100 times. It was worth it.”

Like Landry, Paige Greenamyer also created a custom costume this Halloween.

“I’ve been crocheting for about 20 years and thought why not combine my love of crochet with Halloween,” Greenamyer said.

Greenamyer says she worked on her costume for about two weeks.

She says she started with the hat because she liked the yarn and was looking for patterns.

We asked Greenamier what her costume is officially called.

“I don’t know if there’s anything with a fairy that doesn’t have wings, but maybe it’s like a flower fairy, a garden fairy, a mossy fairy, a nature fairy, I guess it’s kind of a vibe rather than a name,” she said.
