Local swimmers compete in Division I girls swimming and diving championships – Macomb Daily

Macomb County was represented at the state swimming and diving championships held last weekend in Holland at the Holland Aquatic Center.

Romeo’s Alyssa Chambers earned the highest individual placings among Macomb County competitors, placing fifth in the Division 1 200-yard freestyle final and finishing the race in 1:53.07. Chambers also competed in the Division 1 100-yard freestyle, placing sixth in the state finals with a time of 52.21.

Dakota’s Ariana Hough placed 10th in the state 1-meter diving with a final score of 344.7. Fellow Cougar Ella Threlkeld competed in the state finals in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 16th in Division 1 with a time of 5:18.98.

Skydiver Bridget Kelly of Dakota competed in the 100-yard freestyle parasailing finals, finishing third in the state with a time of 2:48.

In the Division 1 prelims, Romeo’s 200-yard medley relay team of Alyssa Chambers, Gisele Stone, Isabella Greco and Harper Savage finished 19th in 1:53.64.

Eisenhower’s Natalie Gabrielle placed 36th in the 200-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 2:01.84.

In the 200-yard dash, Dakota’s Threlkeld placed 21st in 2:13.02 and Eisenhower’s Caitlin LeBel placed 25th in 2:16.70. LeBel also placed 27th in the prelims in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.68.

Olivia Buford of Stevenson placed 24th in the 50 freestyle prelims with a time of 25.11. She also competed in the 100-yard butterfly prelims and finished 33rd in 1:02.85.

In the diving semifinals, Dakota’s Rebecca Pleat placed 18th with a score of 214.25. Aneka Mondal of Stevenson was 25th in the prelims with a score of 138.65, and Sofia Putti of Eisenhower was 29th with a score of 131.95.

Eisenhower’s Natalie Gabriel placed 38th (5:24.47) and Utica’s Ella Sam placed 41st (5:32.47) in the 500-yard freestyle prelims.

Chippewa Valley’s Rachel Kincher placed 18th in the 100-yard backstroke prelims with a time of 1:00.45.

Romeo’s Gisele Stone placed 35th in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 1:10.62.

The overall score placed Romeo 19th and Dakota 29th out of 33 schools in the Division 1 finals.
