Los Angeles Police Warn About Safety of Dodgers Parade Ahead of Celebrations

LOS ANGELESDodger fans prepare to celebrate 2024 World Series Champions in a full-scale parade and celebration at Dodger Stadium, police are warning the public to celebrate safely and responsibly.

It comes after chaos erupted in Southern California following the Dodgers’ win over the Yankees on Wednesday night.

In Echo Park, unruly fans set a subway bus on fire. The bus driver and five passengers were safely evacuated before the fire broke out, Metro said.

LAPD Officials also said several businesses in downtown Los Angeles were looted after the World Series victory. Twelve people were arrested for robbery, vandalism and driving while intoxicated during the celebration, which began early Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police have issued the following safety advice for those planning to attend the parade and other celebrations:

  • Arrive early and be alert. – Arrive early along the parade route to ensure you have a safe viewing spot and avoid crowds later. Be aware of your surroundings and immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement or event staff.

  • Respect barricades and borders – Stay behind barricades, ropes or marked boundaries along the route. This helps maintain a safe distance from buses and clears up the route.

  • Limit your alcohol intake – Treat the holiday responsibly. Excessive alcohol consumption may impair sanity and open containers are prohibited. Follow all local laws regarding alcohol.

  • Keep track of personal belongings – Take care of your valuables, avoid carrying large bags and be careful with personal items, especially in crowded places.

  • Find a meeting place – If you are attending an event with family or friends, choose a meeting location in case anyone gets separated. Cell service may be unstable in crowded environments, so plan accordingly.

  • Avoid the streets – Players will be on buses, so for everyone’s safety, please avoid going outside, especially when buses are passing by.

  • Respect emergency vehicles and personnel – Keep paths clear for emergency personnel. Follow the directions of LAPD officers and other emergency personnel to ensure a safe environment for everyone.

  • stay tuned – Check official LAPD social media or news updates for any last-minute changes to the parade route or safety protocols.

  • Spending the night in tents is not recommended.

  • “If you see something, say something.” Report suspicious activity and packaging to emergency services along the parade route.

  • In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1 and find out the intersection you are calling from. For non-emergency situations, call 1-800-ASK-LAPD (278-5273).

  • Tents, sofas and boxes of any type that can be used as stools or seating are prohibited on the route.

  • Unoccupied chairs are prohibited and will be removed from the parade route.

  • Campfires are strictly prohibited and are considered “illegal burns.”

  • ALL fireworks are prohibited.

  • No public areas – sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streets or ramps – may be blocked or roped off.

  • No ladders or scaffolding may be used as a viewing platform.

  • Pets are not recommended at the parade; take care of them at home!

  • Throwing objects into a parade is not only dangerous, but also prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted and their property will be confiscated.

  • Unauthorized vehicles obstructing emergency lanes or parked in restricted areas will be towed at the owner’s expense. No exceptions.

  • Open containers of alcohol are prohibited on public streets, sidewalks and all other public places. Violators will be prosecuted or arrested.

  • No drones.
