Extreme Networks Expands Universal ZTNA with Advanced Shadow IT and Policy Management Tools

Networking company Extreme Networks Inc. today announced new features for ExtremeCloud Universal ZTNA, the company’s identity-based network access solution that simplifies and strengthens network security in remote and campus environments.

New features include enhanced capabilities to reduce shadow IT risks by automating private application identification and user access tracking. These enhancements enable information technology teams to more effectively manage application usage, limit unauthorized access to inappropriate tools, and ensure compliance with consistent security policies. The new one-click add or reject app feature simplifies policy enforcement and improves overall network visibility.

ExtremeCloud Universal ZTNA also now reduces troubleshooting time by allowing teams to adjust policies and resolve identity-level access issues directly from the dashboard, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual intervention. The end result is faster resolution of network access issues while organizations can maintain a zero-trust security posture for all users, applications, and devices.

Universal ZTNA now also supports automatic policy enforcement across the entire Extreme Networks portfolio, including third-party switches and access points. This flexibility allows organizations to consistently manage security policies across hybrid network environments, whether users are on-site or working remotely, the company says. Integration with ExtremeCloud IQ further simplifies the management process for IT teams.

“Organizations must support hybrid operating models and navigate the complexities of networking and security silos,” said David Nuti, head of security strategy at Extreme Networks. “The policy is confusing and inconsistent. Licensing is complicated. With the advent of new devices and users, the risk increases every day. To overcome this complexity, organizations are moving away from legacy VPN and firewall solutions.”

Extreme Networks was previously in the news in July when it announced it had teamed up with Intel’s Connectivity Analytics program to enhance its AI Expert solution. The connection enabled enhancements that included taking data from networks via Extreme and PCs with Intel data and combining it with generative artificial intelligence and the Intel Connectivity Analytics software development kit to make networks smarter, faster and more reliable.
