Official statement from Manchester United – Erik ten Hag sacked

Erik ten Hag is fired.

An official statement from Manchester United (see below) on Monday revealed the news.

Erik ten Hag led Manchester United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season.

Manchester United have won just four out of thirteen matches (in all competitions) this season and currently sit 14th in the Premier League.

Over the summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly tried to replace the manager.

However, when the likes of Thomas Tuchel and other credible candidates made it clear they were not interested, a humiliated Ratcliffe had to crawl back to Erik ten Hag and beg him to sign a new extended contract.

As a result, this summer Ratcliffe and Manchester United had to agree to let Erik ten Hag spend hundreds of millions more in the transfer market, including buying even more of his former players.

Official statement from Manchester United regarding Erik ten Hag – 28 October 2024:

“Erik ten Hag has left his post as head coach of the Manchester United men’s team.

Eric was appointed to the position in April 2022 and has led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

We are grateful to Eric for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him all the best for the future.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, while a permanent head coach is appointed.”
