Carragher slams ‘bizarre’ TAA statement that signals he is ‘moving to Real Madrid’

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has made his decision and will move to Real Madrid in the summer.

The Reds have made a great start to the new Premier League season. their thrilling 2-2 draw with title rivals Arsenal seeing them come down from first place.

Arne Slot couldn’t have asked for a better start as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, with the Dutchman winning seven of his first nine matches.

Slot has had to deal with a lot of speculation surrounding three of his players: Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are all out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool Captain Van Dyck recently stated that he “discussions with the right people” but the future of Salah and Alexander-Arnold is less clear.

And Carragher branded Alexander-Arnold’s comments that he would rather win the Ballon d’Or than a World Cup or another Champions League “bizarre”.

When asked which he would rather win the Ballon d’Or, a trophy with England, another Champions League or captaining Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold replied: “Winning a World Cup with England would be huge and game-changing but I would say I will win the Ballon d’Or because I believe I can. I want to be the first defenseman to ever do this.

“Only the morning after you retire can you look at yourself in the mirror and say you gave it everything you have. It doesn’t matter how many trophies or medals you win, what matters is what you bring to the table and whether you reached your full potential.

“I heard that they can call me by my name from the age of six. If you realize that potential and you know you have it and you’ve given everything to maximize that potential and become the player you think you can be, which is one of the best players ever, then you you will be happy.

“I think it doesn’t matter how many trophies you win. Do I have the potential to become like this? Certainly. I believe it. Some people may call me delusional, but I believe I can.”

And Carragher believes the Liverpool defender’s ‘bizarre’ comments indicate he will ‘move to Real Madrid’ in the summer transfer window.

Carragher told Sky Sport: “He can try to win the Ballon d’Or, there’s nothing wrong with ambition, but my first thought when I read that was: ‘You won’t win the Ballon d’Or as a Liverpool right-back.’

“Ballon d’Or winners usually play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. The best players in the world go there. If that’s his ultimate goal, I think he’s been asked about winning the Champions League, the World Cup or the Ballon d’Or.

“And he chose the Ballon d’Or, which I think is a little strange and quirky. I think you would always go for the World Cup or the Champions League, it’s a team game, but he has huge ambitions, why not?

“You only have one career. He’s a unique defender, he’s brilliant and he brought Liverpool back into the game today with his pass. But the first thing that came to my mind when I read this interview is that I think he will go to Real Madrid.
