Kerry Vincent sworn in as new minister

The latest line-up of ministers was sworn in by the Governor at Government House in Hobart.

Former Sorell mayor Kerry Vincent was promoted to take over infrastructure responsibilities, which ultimately led to the downfall of Michael Ferguson over issues surrounding the new Spirit of Tasmania ships.

“My life has been in and around the construction industry, having been mayor and involved in various state and federal government infrastructure projects, yes, I do feel that I am in an ideal position to take on this portfolio.”

Kerry Vincent is also Minister for Local Government and plans to liaise with the state’s 29 councils that have not yet formed any amalgamations.

He plans to shift the focus from the term “merger” to sustainability.

“A lot of the pressure on most boards is financial pressure on various parts of the board and most ratepayers don’t know about it, sometimes even new board members don’t know about it.”
