What Jaycee Horn Said About His Penalty Issues Against DeAndre Hopkins

Jaycee Horn was penalized multiple times while defending DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday. The Carolina Panthers defensive end was cautioned for holding the ball multiple times and for pass interference once. It was a tough day against a veteran receiver who also caught several passes, including a touchdown. The former first-round pick opened up after the loss due to penalty issues.

On several occasions, Jaycee Horn pleaded and defended his position to the officials, swearing that he did not call the penalty or that DeAndre Hopkins was at fault. Some replays showed Hopkins occasionally initiating contact, which Horn was quick to point out.

He said: “This man kills every game. It’s his game, he has the right to it, but I think they should let DB play a little more. The coaches talked to us about the officiating staff, I think they were second in the league in DPI or holdings.” Horn said he tried to talk to the officials before the game, letting them know Hopkins would be pushing and he might be pulling a little, too. “Obviously it didn’t work,” he said.

The full-back said he would go back and watch film as he was confident he had a penalty in a few games, but he felt every third loss was marked by a call against him. Horn also said it’s a little frustrating and makes him less aggressive than he’d like.
