The nominations for The Game Awards 2024 were announced last week. Palworld was not mentioned in any of the 30 categories.

The 2024 Game Awards will take place on December 13 and will celebrate achievements in the video game industry. Astro Bot And Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth lead this year’s competition with seven categories each, and Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Ring of Elden: Shadow of Airdtree And Metaphor: ReFantasio also included in the Game of the Year shortlist.

Despite Palworld Being one of the most talked about and successful games of 2024, the open world survival game is not up for any awards at this year’s ceremony. And fans are unhappy with the neglect. “No mention of Palworld at The Game Awards is crazy,” one player wrote, while another called him “crazy.”

“I think the reason why Palworld will never be nominated for this year’s Game Awards due to a legal battle between them and Nintendo,” another fan said. In September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company shared a joint statement confirming that they had filed a lawsuit against the developers of Palworld Pocketpair for copyright infringement.

Pocketpair called the lawsuit “truly unfortunate” and said earlier this month that Nintendo wants Palworld shut down until the legal battle is resolved.

In response to the lack of Game Award nominations, Palworld Global Community Manager Bucky wrote: “No, I don’t think Palworld has been neglected. Twitter has become a place where there is no banter. Stop being such dramatic gamers. Not everything is a conspiracy.”

Others argued that because Palworld is still in early access, it was not eligible for the 2024 awards anyway. However, Bucky noted that another game is in early access Lords of the Manor was nominated in two different categories.

Despite the ongoing legal battle with Nintendo, Palworld recently released on PlayStation and confirmed plans to release a mobile version.

In other news, PlayStation has been reported to be working on a handheld console that will compete with the Nintendo Switch. Earlier this month, Xbox confirmed it was also working on a portable console ahead of the Switch 2’s launch next year.
