King Charles fulfills royal obligations amid Queen Camilla’s health concerns

King Charles held the public event alone, probably under difficult weather conditions.

The 76-year-old was seen attending Sunday service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, without Queen Camilla, who was unable to join him due to health problems.

In fact, Camilla did not attend the Royal Variety Performance on Friday as she continues to recover from a respiratory tract infection that first appeared when she and Charles returned from a tour of Australia and Samoa in October.

Buckingham Palace announced that Camilla would miss the event just hours before guests began arriving.”

A spokesman said: “Following a recent respiratory tract infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms and as a result doctors have advised that after a busy week of events, Her Majesty should prioritize getting adequate rest.

“It is therefore with great regret that she has withdrawn from tonight’s Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty will be present as planned.”

A palace insider said that although Camilla coughs whenever she speaks, there is no cause for concern as she is “in good shape”.

A source said: “(The Queen) firmly believes the show must go on and hopes to return to full strength and regular public duties very soon.”

The Queen “sensibly” decided to follow her doctor’s advice and not “overexert herself” given the length and late Friday of the engagement, sources said.

She remained at home in London but has since traveled to Sandringham as originally planned.

A royal source told the Mail that the Queen was “naturally disappointed to have missed the evening’s entertainment and sincerely apologizes to everyone involved.”
