Tyler Church Gives Out 175 Thanksgiving Dinners

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – CrossPointe Church brought together nearly 100 church members to help distribute 175 Thanksgiving bundles to families around Tyler.

“Things are expensive. Food is expensive, so we’re hoping that this food will help them get a little further along and get them to where they need to be, especially around the holidays,” said the executive pastor of CrossPointe Church.

Each house receives a turkey and two bags full of trimmings.

Pastor Steve Smith said this annual distribution is important to help as many families as possible put food on their tables for Thanksgiving.

“This is the time of year when you celebrate, you get together with families, and some people just can’t do that. So we feel like we can be the hands and feet of Jesus by distributing food so they can celebrate Thanksgiving and have some quality time as a family,” Smith said.

The importance of this is also felt by residents: Jonath Hurtado, who has grandchildren who help feed during the holidays, said it will help him and his wife with both time and money.

“These gifts show love and the spirit is all about Thanksgiving. My mom and I have 12 grandchildren, so that helps a lot,” Hurtado said.

For Smith, the response from people like Hurtado, who now have guaranteed food, is what the holiday is all about.

“We’re trying to help people, meet their needs where they are. So by doing that, we really feel good that we’re doing what we feel we’re called to do,” Smith said.

Any turkeys and trimmings left over from the giveaway will be donated to other families in need at the church.
