Alec Baldwin ‘continues to increase my pain’

Galina Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, criticized actor Alec Baldwin the day before Rust premiere. Nightingale said the actor refused to apologize for her daughter’s accidental gunshot death and accused him of seeking to “unfairly profit” from the tragedy.

“I had always hoped to meet my daughter in Poland to see her work come to life on screen,” Nightingale said in a statement Tuesday. “Unfortunately, that was taken from me when Alec Baldwin fired a gun and killed my daughter. Alec Baldwin continues to add to my pain with his refusal to apologize to me or take responsibility for her death. Instead, he is trying to unfairly profit from my daughter’s murder. This is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the sake of promotion Rustespecially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”

A representative for Alec Baldwin did not immediately respond to a question. Rolling Stonerequests for comments.

The western will premiere at the Camerimage festival in Poland on Wednesday, more than four months since a judge threw out Baldwin’s manslaughter case. The actor was accused of recklessly pointing a replica revolver at Hutchins, an on-set cameraman, and pulling the trigger on October 21, 2021. He has long maintained that he did not pull the trigger.

The annual film festival will also host a panel discussion with Rust director Joel Souza, cinematographer Bianca Cline and Steven Lighthill, Hutchins’ mentor from her AFI film school. According to the festival, the commission will focus on “events surrounding the film, providing insight into the continuation of production after Hutchins’ death” and “maintaining Hutchins’ artistic vision.”

In a separate statement, Nightingale’s attorney Gloria Allred also criticized Baldwin’s “decision to not even call his family to apologize,” saying it was “cruel and a disgrace to Galina and her memory.”

“Even though Mr. Baldwin discharged the gun that killed Galina, he never called them to apologize,” she added. “Worse, through his lawyers, he claimed that Galina was emotionally distant from her family in Ukraine.”

Allred added: “The decision has now been made to move forward Rust buyers to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others involved in Galina’s death.” The lawyer said that Galina’s mother, her father Anatoly Androsovich and sister Svetlana Zemko “will not agree with this plan to use Galina’s death.”

“Gloria Allred’s misrepresentation of both the Camerimage festival and any profit motive is disappointing. Termination decision Rust was made with the full support of Galina’s family,” Melina Spadone, a spokeswoman for Rust Movie Productions, said Wednesday.

“The Camerimage Festival celebrates the craft of filmmakers; this is not a festival for shoppers,” Spadone continued. “None of the manufacturers Rust may benefit financially from the film. To suggest that those involved in making Galina Hutchins’ film were motivated by profit is disrespectful to those who worked tirelessly to honor her legacy.”
