Donald Trump picks Pam Bondi as attorney general after Gaetz backs out | N18G

Matt Gaetz withdrew consideration for the post of U.S. attorney general after facing opposition from Senate Republicans and amid an ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of sex with an underage girl and drug use, which he has denied. Gatz’s lack of experience in traditional law enforcement positions, including the Justice Department or the prosecutor’s office, has further fueled concerns about his qualifications. President-elect Donald Trump then named Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, as his new nominee. Bondi, who has eight years of experience in senior law enforcement positions in Florida and has served on Trump’s Commission on Opioid and Drug Abuse, stood in stark contrast to Gaetz’s background. Trump has also faced questions about his other nominees, including Pete Hegseth, who was cleared of sexual assault charges. Gaetz, who resigned from Congress, resigned from Congress to avoid distracting the administration, giving Trump the opportunity to nominate a nominee with fewer hurdles in the Senate.
