“My son couldn’t wait for his special education plan.”

Lancashire County Council said the family received an EHCP on November 14 after submitting an application in October last year.

The statement said: “We deeply value the unique needs of each child and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), can thrive.

“Nationally there has been a huge increase in the number of children needing SEND support, as well as growing demand.

“Cases are often complex, which can lead to delays when coupled with demand and capacity issues.

“This is a problem facing local authorities across the country.”

In the October Budget, the government outlined an additional £1 billion of funding to support SEND.

The Department for Education said: “We are determined to restore families’ trust in a system that so many rely on.

“The reforms families demand will take time, but with a greater focus on grassroots inclusion and earlier intervention, we will deliver the change that is so desperately needed.”
