Father charged with murder arrested for allegedly getting his daughter pregnant

A man identified as Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, 48, was on Thursday, November 21, arrested by the police in Cross River for allegedly desecrating and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.

The Zone 6 Police Command in Cross River paraded the suspect on Thursday.

Command representative S.P. Nelson Okpabi told the press that the suspect was arrested following a petition filed by Aisha, the aunt of the victim.

“Officers of the Zonal Human Rights Department, acting on a statement submitted to the investigation team, detained Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru on November 15, 2024.

“The suspect is a native of Bundugudu LGA of Zamfara State, residing at 27 Edema Odo Road, Calabar, who unlawfully defiled his daughter,” he said.

As it turned out, the man got his daughter pregnant

According to The Guardian, the spokesman said the complainant said she noticed changes in the girl’s physiology and took her to hospital, where a test confirmed she was nine weeks pregnant.

Police said the victim in her statement alleged that her father, Mallam Umaru, was responsible for her pregnancy and had illicit relations with her since 2023, even threatening to kill her if she told anyone about it.

In response, the suspect denied the allegations and stated that he had been separated from Amina’s mother for several years.

SP Okpabi confirmed that Umaru is due to appear in court on Friday, November 21 as the investigation is concluded in accordance with the law.

“Tomorrow I am to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a charge of murder and I did not even do what my daughter is accused of,” he appealed.

It was learned that Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, along with 19 others, is also appearing before Justice Yusuf Halilu in Maitama, Abuja, on five charges including attempted murder, breach of peace and assault.

Police detained a 65-year-old pastor after the minor’s uncle raised the alarm about the incident.
