Assassin’s Creed Shadows Steam page confirms Denuvo DRM and account link

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Steam page confirms Denuvo DRM and account link

Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, AC Mirage and other Ubisoft games use Denuvo Anti-Tamper and require players to connect their Steam accounts to Ubisoft Connect – and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be no exception. According to a new listing for the stealth RPG that just appeared on Valve’s store, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also require players using Steam to link their account to Ubisoft Connect. The game is also protected by Denuvo, a third-party DRM (digital rights management) solution used by many top-tier developers today.

As the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date approaches, a Ubisoft RPG page has appeared on Steam. In addition to further details about the game itself, it confirms that Assassin’s Creed Shadows includes Denuvo DRM and requires players to connect to the developer’s own Ubisoft Connect platform.

Previously, players speculated that Denuvo could affect the technical performance of computer games. The company has disputed these claims – in a recent interview, product manager Andreas Ullmann said Denuvo “just works.” Games that require players to link their Steam accounts to other platforms have also been controversial. Earlier this year, Helldivers 2 came under fire after the PlayStation publisher required Steam players to connect their accounts to the PlayStation Network. PlayStation later withdrew the account linking requirement for Helldivers 2, although it is still present in some of the publisher’s other games, such as Ghost of Tsushima.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ requirements match those of other Ubisoft games, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Far Cry 6. Skull and Bones requires players to connect to Ubisoft Connect, but does not use Denuvo. On the other hand, Division 2 does not require account linking but uses another third-party DRM solution called VM Protect.

It was recently rumored that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would also have a battle pass, but Ubisoft has confirmed that this is not true. The stealth game’s short early access period has been canceled after the launch date was pushed back by three months.
