Giants owner wants to keep Brian Daboll and Joe Schon, but there’s a catch

Even though his team’s season is quickly winding down, New York Giants owner John Mara may retain head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schon next year.

The Giants (2-8) currently have the fewest wins in the NFL and have lost five in a row, but with quarterback Daniel Jones replaced, there’s a chance that Daboll and Sean, both of whom won’t be guaranteed jobs, seem safe based on results on the field, may return for another season.

With the Giants at 2–5, Mara contacted Daboll and Sean for at least the rest of the season and added that he “doesn’t expect any changes in the offseason either.”

However, since then the situation has only worsened; The Giants lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football and then lost games to the NFC East rival Washington Commanders as well as the Carolina Panthers.

The Giants are now 2-8 and almost certain to miss the playoffs for the second straight year and the seventh time in eight seasons.

And while Mara said last month that he “doesn’t expect” the situation to shake up, that could change depending on how bad the rest of the season gets.

“I have spoken to people in and around this situation who believe that Mara really wants to keep (Daboll and Shen), believing that he changes coaches every 2-3 years and would really like to stop,” the correspondent wrote about this ESPN Jeremy Fowler. “At this point, he agreed with Daboll and Sean’s vision and trusted them to make the decision to keep Jones on the bench. The pair have not yet chosen their quarterback of the future.

“Others around the league are a little more skeptical, and some people who follow these things closely are predicting more of a 50-50 bet. If it’s Week 17, MetLife Stadium is half full, and the Giants are stuck at two wins, Mara’s position will be tested.” “

The Giants look to end the season on a high note after a 2-8 start.

The Giants’ remaining schedule should give fans of the team some hope that the season won’t end with just two wins. However, nothing can be guaranteed and nothing more should be expected.

New York moves forward with Tommy DeVito as the team’s starting quarterback; DeVito started six games last season, going 3-3, throwing for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in nine games.

First up in the post-Jones era are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey this Sunday. Next up is a Thanksgiving Day game in Arlington against the Dallas Cowboys.

After that very winnable game against Dallas, the Giants host the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens before heading to Atlanta to play the Falcons. The Giants’ home finale is set for Dec. 29 against the Indianapolis Colts, with another matchup against Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles serving as the regular-season finale.
