Snowflake has agreed to acquire Datavolo, a provider of a single platform designed to automate and manage the flow of structured and unstructured data between enterprise data sources.

The artificial intelligence data cloud company said Wednesday the move is aimed at deepening its services at the “bronze level” of the data lifecycle and enabling data teams to integrate their enterprise systems with Snowflake’s unified platform.

Commenting on the potential acquisition, Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake, said: “By bringing Datavolo into Snowflake, we are expanding the scope of Snowflake’s data lifecycle capture, unlocking both simplicity and cost savings for our customers without sacrificing data extensibility.”

Snowflake is also looking to accelerate its public sector business by continuing to support and develop Datavolo’s Apache NiFi, which was originally open sourced by the National Security Agency.

The Secure Data Processing and Distribution Project, when fully integrated into the Snowflake platform, will form the basis of the latter’s open and extensible connectivity platform for structured and unstructured data.

“By joining forces with Snowflake, we will be able to provide our customers with the enormous scale and radical simplicity of the Snowflake platform, which will ultimately open up data science to more users,” said Joe Witt, co-founder and CEO of Datavolo and co-creator of Apache NiFi. .

The latest move follows Snowflake’s acquisition of analytics firm Night Shift Development to expand its public sector portfolio.
