What they won’t have: from luggage storage to barriers on the platform

We’ve waited a hell of a long time, but the new Piccadilly Line trains are almost here. The inside of the walk-through trains will be equipped with air conditioning, electronic screens and completely new carpet. But what about the fact that they there won’t be have?

Transport blog Clondoner92 conducted an investigation to find out what exactly is missing from the new Piccadilly line trains.

Information obtained through a Freedom of Information request carried out by Clondoner92 has revealed that the new trains will not have luggage racks or platform screens/edge doors (as on the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines).

“The new trains do not have luggage racks. Multi-use areas with reclining seats have been incorporated into the vehicles to create space for luggage and prams to reduce obstruction,” TfL wrote in response to a freedom of information request.

The new Piccadilly Line trains will also No be completely driverless. “TfL has no plans to introduce autonomous driving on the London Underground network,” TfL wrote. “The new trains are equipped with a driver’s cab for manual control or automatic control in the future with a driver in the cab, as is currently the case on other London Underground lines when we come to replace the signaling on the Piccadilly line.”

If you want even more details about the new dark blue line trains, Clondoner92 also reported that the new trains will operate with current signaling systems, the same models will not be produced on the Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo and City lines, and there in There are currently no plans to update the Jubilee, Northern and Victoria lines.
