Coldplay’s Chris Martin fell through a trapdoor on stage during a performance in Melbourne.

Martin was talking to the crowd as he walked backwards and fell into a large hole on the runway on Sunday (November 3) as the British band wrapped up their fourth and final show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

In videos posted on social media, the frontman can be seen walking towards the crowd, reading signs and suddenly falling down a manhole as he begins to walk backwards. The crowd can be heard gasping as a crew member standing inside the chasm breaks Martin’s fall and helps him up.

“This is, uh, not planned, thank you very much for catching me.” Thank you guys,” Martin said.

“Damn, it was almost a YouTube moment,” he said.

Martin can be seen getting back up and did not appear visibly injured.

It comes just three weeks after American singer Olivia Rodrigo also took a nasty fall from the stage during her concert in Melbourne.

The “Brutal” singer played to an Australian crowd while running back and forth across the dimly lit stage at Rod Laver Arena before collapsing.

Emerging from a seemingly hidden hatch on the stage, Rodrigo addressed the shocked crowd.

“Oh my god! It was fun. I’m fine. Sometimes there’s just a hole in the stage. It’s okay. OKAY. Where was I?

In early October, the band, consisting of Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, announced a milestone they were aiming to achieve before the band called it quits.

In an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, Martin explained that Coldplay, like his and his bandmates’ heroes, will release a certain number of albums over the course of their career.

“We’re only going to release 12 full-length albums, and that’s realistic,” the frontman said.

– It’s true, isn’t it? Lowe asked.

“Yes,” Martin replied. – Promise, promise.

Even when Lowe protested that he wanted “50 albums,” Martin said, “No, you don’t. You won’t because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more. Kidding. And I’ll tell you why: it’s very important that we have this limit.

“First of all, there are only 12 of them, well, there are only eight Harry Potters or seven Harry Potters. There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums. It’s about the same Bob Marley, all our heroes are like that.”

Martin, 47, said the restriction would ensure the same quality control as Coldplay’s previous albums, including the 2000s. Parachutes2008s Viva la Vida, or Death and all his friends2015s A head full of dreamsand 2021s Music of the Spheres.
