The end of the Cup Series season is nigh, but before NASCAR’s top division heads to Sun Valley for its crescendo, the championship field needs to be determined.

Eight of NASCAR’s biggest and brightest talents entered the Round of 16 with dreams of greatness. Only four advanced, and the final two had to wait until Sunday’s race at Martinsville to get their ticket.

Who led the Paperclip at the Xfinity 500? Sporting News brings you the final results of the penultimate Cup Series race.

Who won the NASCAR race today?

Ryan Blaney took home the checkered flag on Sunday, holding off Chase Elliott for his third win of the year.

Things were looking pretty tough for Blaney earlier in the closing stages, backing off after NASCAR controversially went from caution to green and then back to caution again with Blaney and William Byron in the front row. The decision put Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott ahead, leaving Blaney and Byron behind the eight.

Blaney overcame the hurdle, passing Elliott in the final few laps to take the win at Martinsville – and give himself a chance at back-to-back Cup Series crowns.
