Real Madrid and Bayern Munich target ‘chooses’ Manchester City as ‘next destination’ while Guardiola prefers to ‘carry on’

Bayer Leverkusen striker Florian Wirtz has reportedly decided to join Premier League side Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

City have made a strong start to the new season as they look to defend their Premier League crown after Arsenal clinched the title on the final day of last season.

Manchester City won their fourth consecutive Premier League title last season and Pep Guardiola is already one of the best managers the English top flight has ever seen.

Guardiola’s contract expires in the summer and there have been rumors he could leave for a new challenge or a sabbatical.

The 115 charges brought against Manchester City over alleged breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules have done little to clarify Guardiola’s future.

There were several messages last week that Guardiola has decided to remain as manager at the Etihad Stadium, but his future is still uncertain.

Another report over the weekend claimed that Guardiola had demanded the signing of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Wirtz. to ‘continue’ as Manchester City manager after this seasonamid concerns that Kevin De Bruyne will leave in the summer.

The Germany international was a key member of Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side that won the Bundesliga last season, and Wirtz has been in good form again this season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in 12 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances.

And now it looks like Guardiola will stay as Wirtz has apparently ‘chosen’ Manchester City as his ‘next destination’ and ‘many clubs are keeping a close eye on the German midfielder’.

Manchester City are said to be “winning the race for young German talent” and City are now “determined to make an offer in excess of €100 million to take him into the Premier League”.

It is understood that European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich “have also shown interest, with the player’s preferences appearing to lean towards the Premier League and Manchester City in particular.”

Wirtz said in the summer that he had no timetable for when he could leave Bayer Leverkusen and potentially join one of the European heavyweights.

He said Kicker in the summer: “I don’t have a schedule, so I don’t even have an idea in my head about it.

“I’m very happy to be back in football after the summer break. Right now I’m just trying to achieve my goals with the team. Then we’ll see what happens at some point, but I don’t have a timetable.”
