“CineGala 2024”: Melbourne NSU graduates return to the golden age of cinema

On 26 October, Melbourne’s Fitzroy Town Hall was transformed for ‘CineGala 2024’, an event organized by the NSU Melbourne Alumni Association. The gathering honored the golden era of black and white cinema, with attending guests immersed in the elegance of the 1960s-inspired theme.

The evening began with a tribute to Australia’s Indigenous heritage and the singing of the Bangladeshi national anthem. The program, hosted by Arif Sobhan, featured nostalgic Bangladeshi classics performed by alumni including Bobby and Anita Chowdhury and Thumpa, enchanting the audience.

The evening began with a celebration of Australia’s Indigenous heritage, followed by the singing of the Bangladeshi national anthem. Led by emcee Arif Sobhan, the event saw the graduates perform their favorite Bangladeshi classics while singers like Bobby, Anita Chowdhury and Thumpa enchanted the audience.

A surprise dance flash mob created extra excitement while guests enjoyed a delicious Bangladeshi-Chinese dinner. The second half featured a CineDance performance celebrating iconic songs from classic cinema, followed by popular Western hits from the 60s and 70s.

The evening ended with a performance by renowned artiste John Kabir, who enchanted the audience with his songs. NSU Melbourne President Mirza Asif Haider expressed his gratitude to the participants and sponsors, noting the hard work of the organizing committee.

Founded in 2015, the NSU Melbourne team is committed to strengthening community connections and creating meaningful experiences. After a six-year hiatus, they were proud to host this successful gala and look forward to more exciting events in the future.
