After a dynamic 10-week home and away season, the top eight finalists for this year’s AFLW have been determined.

For the first time in its seven-year history, North Melbourne have clinched the minor premiership, with Hawthorn, Brisbane and Adelaide completing the top four.

Adelaide completed their double chance on Friday night with a win over Geelong, while Port Adelaide guaranteed a home final on Sunday night with a late win over GWS.

Last year’s premiers Lions finished one place higher in the home-and-away standings than last year, and the Hawks will host a home qualifying final next weekend at Icon Park, backed by a $1 million prize. thanks to the win over Richmond.

The Tigers will face Power in a do-or-die showdown at Alberton Oval, with either Fremantle or Essendon also finishing this coming weekend.

2024 AFLW FINALS MATCH – WEEK 1 – Qualifiers and Elimination Finals

First Qualifying Final: (1) North Melbourne v (4) Adelaide – Friday 8 November, 7.15pm, Ikon Park

First Elimination Final: (5) Fremantle v (8) Essendon – Saturday 9 November, 4pm, Fremantle Oval.

Second Qualifying Final: (2) Hawthorn v (3) Brisbane – Sunday 10 November 13:05, Ikon Park

Second Elimination Final: (6) Port Adelaide v (7) Richmond – Sunday 10 November, 2.35pm, Alberton Oval.

WHEN IS THE AFLW GRAND FINAL?

The AFLW finals series begins next weekend, with no pre-final – unlike the AFL men’s competition.

The 2024 AFLW Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday, November 30, but a time slot is yet to be confirmed as the league is strongly considering a night game.

Last year’s grand final took place at 2:30 pm ET at Ikon Park.

The location of the match has also not yet been determined.

HOW THE AFLW FINALS SYSTEM WORKS

The winners of the two qualifying finals advance to host two preliminary finals, with two teams eliminated each week until the Grand Final.

The loser of the first qualifying final takes on the winner of the first elimination final in the first semi-final.

The loser of the second qualifying final takes on the winner of the second elimination final in the second semi-final.

The winner of the First Qualifying Final will take on the winner of the Second Semi-Final of the First Preliminary Final.

The winner of the Second Qualifying Final will take on the winner of the First Semi-Final of the Second Preliminary Final.

The winners of the two preliminary finals will meet in the 2024 AFLW grand final.
