SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — As games continued without goals this season, the stress continued to mount for Jake DeBrusk.

The top-six forward, who signed a seven-year, $38.5 million deal with Vancouver this offseason after spending seven years in Boston, has failed to score for his new team in nine games.

DeBrusk finally scored his first goal Saturday night against the Canucks. Victory over the San Jose Sharks with a score of 3:2. – before the drought reached double digits – with a decisive third-period goal that helped Vancouver win a thriller on the road.

The 28-year-old sent a wrist shot past Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood’s glove with just under 5 minutes to play in Game 3 to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead.

Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said that despite not scoring before Saturday, DeBrusk has fit in well with his new team, finishing in the top spot Saturday along with JT Miller and Brock Boeser. Miller made sure to grab the puck as a souvenir for DeBrussac.

“Nice shot,” Tochet said. “I mean, it was dialed in. This is probably the only place where he could score. That’s the goalscorer’s goal.”

DeBrusk scored 19 goals for the Bruins last season, but he didn’t score his first goal until nine games last season on Nov. 2.

“Hopefully I can get a couple more early next year so I know I have an automatic (Nov. 2),” DeBrusk joked.

But DeBrusk, who has four assists on the season, said it was hard not to focus on the goals, especially as he adjusted to his new team.

“I think I’m getting a little more comfortable, but at the same time, every game you feel it more and more,” DeBrusk said. “You always want to get the first one as quickly as possible. It took me a lot longer than the other guys, but I’m glad to help win.”
