Kamala Harris is not our savior. But a Donald Trump victory would be a disaster.

I’m pretty sure the majority of Americans don’t support Trump. He has already lost the popular vote twice; that is why it has paved the way for baseless claims of rigged elections or encouragement of political violence as a means of maintaining power.

But this majority will only matter if we vote and organize.

It is not enough to defeat a fascist by a minimal margin; Ideally, we need to widen our margin of victory so much that it becomes much more difficult for Trump and his cronies to claim that they represent the will of the American people. This is why voting even in “safely blue” or “safely red” states matters. To achieve a fairer America, we need to look at the democratic popular vote—and if Harris wins, we’ll have a Vice President Tim Walz who, like many of us, believes “the Electoral College should.”

I know we’ve all split up in different ways to even get close to Election Day. We avoid the news or ignore headlines and stories because we need to move on with our lives. But democracy is not guaranteed. This is a group effort that requires the participation of all of us.

Right now, we have the power to stop Trump. If he wins, we may no longer have these tools at our disposal. Trump is on record telling conservative Christians that he just needs them to vote this year so they won’t have to vote again. “Four more years and everything will be fixed, everything will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians,” he said this summer. It was one of many comments that were to spark a week-long row. news cycle, but was consumed by, well, everything else. He has an army of election deniers ready to do his corrupt, anti-democratic bidding.

There are many things you can do right now on Election Day: volunteer, call a bank, canvass or knock on doors, write cards or letters, offer to drive people to the polls, volunteer as a poll worker. If you’ve never called voters in your life, now is the time to try it. It may not be easy, but life under the Trump-Vance administration will be much more difficult.

Hillary Clinton comfortably won the popular vote in 2016. millions — but lost the Electoral College by a razor-thin margin, in part because people thought they couldn’t make a difference, or that it was better to leave the job to someone else.

No one will come to save us. We must save ourselves and each other. Under the Trump administration, it will be impossible to fight for any of the issues you care about.

If you have any anxiety or worry about this election, I encourage you to channel it into action. You can’t put it off or tweak it anymore. That’s it.

Don’t wake up on November 6th wanting to do more. Do it now. You still have time.
