Des Moines is the latest city to consider moving Beggar’s Night, survey released

DES MOINES, Iowa — After celebrating Beggar’s Night on Halloween for the first time in decades, the city of Des Moines is now asking residents if they want the changes to become permanent.

Many metros, such as Bondurant and Windsor Heights, have moved Beggar’s Night to the Saturday before Halloween. The change has received positive feedback as it gives children more time to prepare for trick-or-treating rather than on school nights.

A West Des Moines man has been charged in a crash that killed a pedestrian in a parking lot.

Des Moines is the latest city to consider moving Beggar’s Night. Johnston and West Des Moines also sent out surveys asking residents if they wanted to keep Beggar’s Night at the same location or move it to another night.

Des Moines residents have the option of holding Beggar’s Night on Oct. 30 or moving it to Halloween night or the Saturday before Halloween. The survey is now open and will close on November 15th. Residents can find the survey on the city’s website.
