MONICA- Welcome. Today we have Dale Washburn, who is running for Georgia House of Representatives District 144, to join us. Thank you for being here today.

DOL- I am honored to be with you today.

MONICA- I am very glad that I have you. And I have a few questions for you today. First, I want to ask, what are the main priorities that you plan to address if elected, and how do you plan to do it?

DOL- Well, I have a business and I’ve been in real estate for 49 years. I am very familiar with our property tax system and have already done a lot of work on it. And I will continue to work on property taxes. I believe that our property tax system is unfair, outdated and needs a lot of improvement. And I will continue to work on this. Depending on what happens, we will have a constitutional amendment on the ballot that I encourage everyone to vote yes on because it is moving in the right direction. This is amendment number one. But I will work more on property taxes and pay special attention to this issue.

MONICA- Why do you think you are the best candidate for this position? Why should people choose you?

DOL- Well, I was there for six years. I’m finishing my third semester. I worked hard. When I went there, I certainly wanted to get to know our leadership, and I wanted to learn the legislative process that I had worked hard on and wanted to build relationships with the people across the street. I believe in good relations with both sides in the General Assembly. And I did, and I was fortunate enough to have a good reputation in the law. I have had great success in law. I have transmitted the bill to the House of Representatives. I introduced a Senate bill in the House of Representatives at least once a year. And then I was there. So I have experience as a legislator. I have a good portfolio on the committee. And I think that given the committee experience that I have, I think I’m the best candidate for State Representative for District 144.

MONICA- How did you react to the record voter turnout? What does this tell you about the current election cycle we’re in?

DOL-Well, I think it’s very interesting. I hear it from both sides. I listened a little while we spoke today and heard both sides, Democrats and Republicans, talk about how their early voter turnout was very strong. I think it certainly indicates that there is a lot of concern about the country and its direction at the national level. So there’s a lot of interest in this election, which is good. We are glad that people come to vote. Respectable citizens should know about this and vote. And this is what is the basis of our country and our democracy. And I think it’s very good that we have such a large turnout now.

MONICA- Why is it so important to you to represent the people here in middle Georgia? What does it mean to you, knowing that you can advocate for people at the local level? Why is this so important?

DOL- Well, when I ran, I always said in my campaign that, you know, if you put me in Atlanta, I would always vote for what’s best for Georgia families and what’s best for Georgia businesses. And those two things are almost always compatible because business has to be good to provide jobs for our people so they can pay for everything the family needs. And so I believe that God’s plan for a civil, orderly society is entirely focused on making sure my family functions the way it should. And I think this is his plan for an orderly society. That’s why I’m honored to be in the Georgia House of Representatives. I’m very blessed to be there. I hope to be there for a few more years. So, I’m honored to have the opportunity to be here and advocate for our Georgia families and businesses.

MONICA- Well, thank you very much.
