How do the numbers compare?

Early voting ended this week for Tuesday’s election.

We previously reported turnout here, but state officials have since updated the number of registered voters.

When we first looked at the numbers, the most recent enrollment statistics we had were as of October 1st. Since voters were able to register for this election as early as mid-October, that changed the numbers slightly. We have revised them to reflect the percentage of turnout compared to the number of registered voters as of November 1st.

For comparison, we also extracted early voting data from the most recent presidential election, which took place in November 2020.

Most turnout figures were fairly close, with differences of only a few percentage points. In almost all cases, there were more registered voters in 2020 than there are today in 2024.

Statewide turnout numbers remained unchanged, with 3,044,473 registered voters in Louisiana as of Nov. 1. Of these, 965,824 voted early. This is 32 percent.
As of November 1, 2020, there were 3,091,340 registered voters in Louisiana, of which 986,428 voted early. This is also 32 percent.
