Neighbors are choosing between these three candidates to see who will become the next sheriff of Gadsden County. I spoke with these gentlemen about why they believe they are the best person for the job and what they plan to do to keep the area safe.

In just a few days, one of these men will be named sheriff of Gadsden County.

“I want to make a difference in the county.”

One of these candidates is William Buckhalt.

“At this point, our law enforcement needs some accountability.”

Buckhalt says he wants to rebuild trust with neighbors and law enforcement.

“I will hold people accountable for their work, I will be there for the community, if they need me they can call me, have an open door policy with the community, if they have any problems, sit down and talk to me. about it and we will solve them.

On the security front, Buckhalt says adding more officers will allow them to better monitor crime.

McClellan says he wants to focus on the county’s younger generation.

“We have to do something about our youth. We need to involve them in various programs and mentor them so that they do not get confused in our judicial system.”

McClellan tells me he wants to be open with his neighbors.

“Develop procedures and guidelines that will point us in the right direction and provide transparency to the citizens here in Gadsden County.”

Along with transparency and connection with your community.

“I have always been fair, firm and consistent with everyone. I believe in upholding the law and holding people accountable for their actions.”

Both Buckhalt and McClellan are running against current Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young.

“When someone tells you, ‘That’s my sheriff,’ they’re making it personal.”

Young says if re-elected, his department will continue its goal of creating a 21st century sheriff’s department.

“In many cases, when we don’t have a lot of resources, it makes our job a lot more difficult. We have violent crimes in places where we don’t have these tools.”

Sheriff Young says his department is working to implement new technology to track crime in certain areas.

“A deputy can’t be everywhere with a program like this where we can have a real-time crime center. Having cameras throughout the county in these high-profile areas.”

While each candidate’s approach to safety and politics may differ, they have one thing in common… They have lived in Gadsden County their entire lives and worked in law enforcement.

All candidates agree when it comes to finding ways to keep Gadsden County’s youth out of trouble because they say they are the future of this community.
