The Dodgers’ World Series strategy had so little respect for Aaron Boone and the Yankees.

Often in sports, frustrated fans expect talent to equate to success. At the professional level in any sport, the difference in talent between two teams is more subtle than it appears. Ultimately, the organizations that win games are the ones that build teams, not just assemble talent.

Based on the results of the 2024 World Series, the New York Yankees may have triumphed over the Los Angeles Dodgers. New York finished with a .212 batting average, nine home runs and 24 runs batted in. Los Angeles finished with a .206 batting average, seven home runs and 25 runs batted in.

But in the end, those numbers weren’t what decided the World Series. This was not solved by the money spent on the compounds. This decision was not even made by Shohei Ohtani. The deciding factor was the fundamental difference between the two clubs: while the Yankees were gathering talent, the Dodgers were building a team.

In scouting meetings, the Dodgers told their players that the Yankees were built on talent rather than fundamentals, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported. Los Angeles knew the Yankees would beat themselves with the mistakes they made to themselves. All they had to do was put the ball in play and watch the Bronx Bombers explode.

The Dodgers noted that the Yankees were the worst batting team in the majors by almost every metric. Team analytics also found that the Yankees have the worst outfield position in the majors. There was no team on the relay throws, and players like Jazz Chisholm Jr. often just stood there.

Ultimately, it was details like these that played a decisive role. Even after the Yankees took a five-run lead in Game 5, the Dodgers could only wait for New York to spoil things for itself. Aaron Judge threw a routine pass to center field. Chisholm failed to catch Anthony Volpe’s deflected throw on a force attempt at third. Gerrit Cole gave up his pursuit of first base after Mookie Betts grounded out.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers throttled the Yankees.

“Baseball comes down to execution, right?” Nestor Cortez said after Game 5: “If you don’t convert and the other team does it better than you, then they will obviously win. And that’s what we’ve encountered in the series where they implement a lot of games. .. And I already said that after the first and second games it seemed that they did everything right. They had Mookie Betts in right field, and he was holding one every ball off the wall, and stuff like that, it’s like you. we can’t capitalize on them, and when we made (mistakes), they capitalized on it, so it’s huge.”

“It comes down to what it always comes down to, limiting mistakes,” Judge said. “You don’t give the enemy room to breathe.”

After a rollercoaster season, it was execution and fundamentals, along with a magical performance from Freddie Freeman, that helped the Dodgers secure their eighth World Series title.
