The singer apologized for ruining the anthem and swearing on air

(WKRC) – Loomis has apologized after a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that went viral that included a bad note and expletives.

On October 24, an R&B singer from Los Angeles ruined the national anthem at the Freedom and Equality presidential debate among three third-party presidential candidates. It aired on C-SPAN.

Her voice wavered and she stopped, asking to start over. “I screwed up, I screwed up, can I come back please?” – asked the singer.

But Loomis was told it would be a live broadcast, so she continued. After the next line of the anthem, she admitted: “I was too nervous.”

After finishing the song, Loomis shook her head and walked off stage.

A few days later, Loomis took to social media to apologize.

“First of all, I would like to apologize to the Free and Equal political team for this incident, and from the bottom of my heart I wanted to apologize,” she said in the video. “And I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to ruin the national anthem and I wanted to thank you guys for giving me a chance and believing in me. Please forgive me.”

Loomis said she was concerned about singing the anthem live.

“I was always afraid that I would fail, and then I did it and the world saw it,” she said. “So I just wanted somebody to see that you can turn something negative into something positive.”

The caption to the post also said:

“I was a little late and didn’t have a clear idea, which left me confused when we went on air! I know it wasn’t the best and I’m truly sorry if it missed the mark. I will take full responsibility on my part and ask you not to use this incident to reflect on what kind of artist I am and try to be.

I am so grateful for the opportunity and all the love and support I received. I take this as a lesson learned and can’t wait to come back even stronger!”

She also stopped to talk on camera about her future and defend her ability to sing. TMZ published the clip.

Just over three months ago, country singer Ingrid Andress struggled with the anthem at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby.

The four-time Grammy Award nominee apologized, saying she was drunk and in rehab at the time.
