It’s Halloween and kids everywhere will be having fun tonight, many accompanied by their parents. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan would like to be one of those parents. Unfortunately, he won’t be there, and it’s not because of his busy football schedule. With the 49ers having a bye week, he does have some rare free days during this busy season.

“I was actually so excited that it dawned on me that we don’t have Halloween,” Shanahan shared on Bay Area radio station KNBR this week. “I like to dress up and go out with the kids when no one knows who you are and just wear a mask. I like it”.

He was excited to go to the holiday with his children until they reminded him that they were out of tradition.

“I was telling them how excited I was to go with them this year,” Shanahan continued, “and then my daughter, who is a junior in high school, looked at me, my son, who is a junior in high school, looked at me. , and they were like, “Dad, we’re not going out on Halloween. What do you think? And I thought, “Oh, shit.”

“And then I looked at my sixth-grader and thought, ‘Well, I can still go with you, right?’ And she was like, “Um, dad, it’s kind of weird that you came with me. You can hang out from afar.” And I had a (disappointed) face, and my eldest daughter actually felt sorry for me. She was like, “I’ll go with you.” I was like, “I don’t need a pity party, guys.”

Shanahan added that he would still like to dress up and join in the Halloween fun, jokingly considering adding another child to his family.

“Well, it’s only on Halloween and once every seven years when it’s my bye week,” Shanahan added.
