Gayle Manchin Announces ARC Grants in Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (WVVA) – Southern West Virginia will receive a portion of a thirty-three point fifty million dollar Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant to help with disaster recovery, cybersecurity training and industry expansion.

ARC Director Gail Manchin, making an announcement Tuesday at The Tamarack, said this is the largest award to date for the Appalachian Regional Economic Strengthening Initiative, with one hundred and forty-five partners in all thirteen Appalachian states.

Of those thirty-three point five million dollars, a ten million dollar grant will go towards creating an interstate network for home repair, disaster response and recovery, which is critical to current and future hurricane recovery.

“This ensures that everyone we need to involve is included in the process. At the community level, you need elected officials, you need your educational community to know that in order for something good to happen, you need to work together,” Manchin said.

With the support of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act, ARC has now invested one hundred twenty-one point eight million dollars in 46 “ARISE” projects. He supports the development of new economic opportunities in all thirteen Appalachian states.
