A month after Marlon Wayans condemned how Harvey Weinstein “stole” Scary movie franchise from Keenen Ivory Wayans and his family, ABC Audio has confirmed that the family will return with a new installment of the horror film parody.

Weinstein’s former company Miramax has teamed up with distributor Paramount Pictures for the new project, which was first announced over the summer at CinemaCon but did not include Wayans’ name at the time.

In an Instagram post, Marlon wrote: “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans Brothers are finally giving fans what they’ve been asking for…a return to the Scary Movie franchise!

He added: “We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

In a statement from the head of Miramax Jonathan Glickman proclaimed, “We are thrilled to reunite Scary movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators of the beloved franchise. …we are lucky to have Keenan, Marlon and Seanunique comedic vision, bringing it to audiences around the world.”

In the announcement, Marlon, Sean and Keenan added in part: “This is a franchise we created over 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope it happens again.”

As reported back in September, Marlon spoke with Shey Shey Club podcast about the runaway success of the first film, which Keenan directed.

After the “huge” first film, “We got a good deal on the second one,” but then Harvey and Bro. Bob Weinstein “took it from us.” He insisted that he was paid for at the box office with subsequent attempts minus the famous family.

“You can’t do Wayans shit without Wayans,” Marlon said. “We have 200 years of comedy between me, Sean and Keenan. Damon, Kim. We have a long history of excellence in what we do.”
