Bellagio expansion up for review | Casino and games

After weeks of inactivity, the proposed Bellagio hotel-casino expansion project will face its first bureaucratic test Tuesday night.

The Paradise Town Advisory Board will review the project design and sign revision for the planned Bellagio Project Mojave, which will add nearly 400,000 square feet of space to the resort’s existing footprint on the Las Vegas Strip.

MGM Resorts International, operator of the Bellagio, is proposing a multi-story expansion of the underutilized portion of the hotel-casino. The Mojave project will add new restaurants, shopping and entertainment options near the Bellagio entrance on Las Vegas Boulevard, according to Clark County reports.

The decision of the five-member Paradise TAB is not binding. If the community board is satisfied, the proposal will go before the Clark County Zoning Commission next month.

Two project review applications were removed from the July Paradise TAB meeting agenda without notice. No reasons were given as to why the requests were withdrawn.

County records show the project will feature about a dozen new retail units, several food and beverage outlets, a day/nightclub, an entertainment center, and several outdoor terraces, patios and balconies.

The existing freestanding sign on the Strip will be replaced with a 5,905-square-foot LED sign with an electronic message board. The new sign will be 141 feet tall, according to public documents.

Plans submitted to the county also include a proposal to build a bridge that would connect the hotel to another MGM resort, the Cosmopolitan Hotel-Casino. In 2022, MGM completed a $1.63 billion deal to acquire management of The Cosmopolitan.
