Jessica Williams Returns to The Daily Show to Assure Jon Stewart His ‘Rich Old White Boy Privilege’ Will Save Him

Just hours after Comedy Central announced Jon Stewart plans to continue Daily Show until 2025, the part-time presenter received an unexpected but clearly very welcome blast from the past.

Monday night episode Daily ShowAbout 15 minutes into his monologue, which was essentially a spirited rant against Donald Trump’s xenophobia-filled Madison Square Garden rally and his desire to revive the archaic 1798 law, former correspondent/voice of reason Jessica Williams appeared.

After asking if it was really her, Williams assured him that she was not a hologram. “You think Comedy Central has money for holograms?” she asked, which seemed to convince Stuart that this was indeed his former colleague – in the flesh.

“I’m here in real life to tell you something,” Williams said. “Don’t be sad, John. Everything will be fine. For You. White guy. Rich old white guy.

While Williams seemed confident that Stewart’s “rich old white guy privilege” would save him from whatever hell Trump might turn America into if he reclaimed the presidency, she wasn’t so sure it would make any difference at all. . “Honestly, how much longer do you have to live?” she wanted to know because she assumed Stewart had some kind of terminal illness.

When an offended Stewart asked why she thought that, Williams explained that it was his “general vibe and… that facial feature.” Woof!

As Stewart struggled not to break down at this point, Williams assured him that he would be fine regardless of the outcome of the upcoming election. “It doesn’t matter,” she explained. “Because for non-old white people, for people of color, women and queer people, it’s going to be a completely different story.”

Ultimately, Williams addressed the audience directly and acknowledged that we are all exhausted right now because of the “anger and frustration in our political discourse is tiresome.” But the worst thing we can do, according to Williams, is to succumb to this fatigue.

“Don’t let them get you down,” Williams said. “Don’t let the constant draining bullshit get you down. Don’t turn away. Look straight into that barrel and say, “Today is not apathy”… And no matter what happens, we must embrace the people who need us most. And hang in there, damn it.

The only one Williams’ advice didn’t apply to was Stewart, whom she urged to “let go.” When he revealed that he had just signed a contract for another year with Daily ShowWilliams laughed. “Oh my God, you’re crazy. Do you think you can live another year?

Monday’s appearance marked Williams’ second return to Daily Show this year. She previously met with Stewart in April, at the height of Trump’s hush money trial.

Today she stars in the Apple TV+ series. Reduction with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. But Williams has nothing but love for Stewart and Daily Show.
