The BBC has confirmed the air date of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light as the Thomas Cromwell drama returns

The long-awaited conclusion to Tudor drama Wolf Hall has finally been given a premiere date on BBC One and iPlayer – and it’s coming very soon.

Based on the acclaimed novels of the late author Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall tells the story of key moments in the reign of King Henry VIII (Damian Lewis), but follows from the point of view of his close adviser Thomas Cromwell (Mark Rylance).

In the first season, the story focused primarily on the enormous problems caused by Henry’s defection from the Roman Catholic Church, his attempts to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon (Joanne Whalley), and his attempt to conceive a son with Anne Boleyn. (Claire Foy).

The second season will continue to adapt the final two novels in Mantel’s trilogy, Bring Up Bodies and The Mirror and the Light, with the subtitle of a miniseries from the latter.

Anyone familiar with Mantel’s books knows that you can cram a lot of content into six hours, but the teaming of screenwriter Peter Straughan (Conclave) and director Peter Kosminski (The Undeclared War) worked well the first time around.

Fans will be able to check out their latest work when season 2 of Wolf Hall (also known as Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light) premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

In an interview with Deadline earlier this month, Straughan said: “Peter (Kosminski) did a fantastic job.

“It was a long time. It took Hilary a while to write it and then it took me a long time to adapt it. But I like it.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to do things like this these days and perhaps only the BBC can do it.”

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light also stars Timothy Spall, who reprises the role of the Duke of Norfolk previously held by the late Bernard Hill, as well as Harriet Walter (The Inheritance), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (The Artful Trickster) and Jonathan Pryce ( “Slow Horses”) ).

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light is out on BBC One and iPlayer Sunday, November 10th.
