A Sunday Night Football game that looked like a blowout at one point turned into a close comeback win for the Dallas Cowboys. Instead, the San Francisco 49ers won in prime time, 30–24.

The 49ers trailed the Cowboys 10-6 at halftime, but turned the tide in their favor with three straight touchdowns to open the third quarter. Dallas’ CeeDee Lamb scored touchdowns on two straight quarterfinal trips, but it wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to overcome a 17-point deficit.

San Francisco tight end George Kittle was the biggest star of National Tight End Day with six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys. Rookie running back Isaac Gerendo also shined, posting 85 yards on 14 carries and scoring his first career touchdown after Jordan Mason left the game early with a shoulder injury.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel also left the game with a rib injury, leaving the 49ers without their top three receivers – Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk (season-ending knee injury) and Jauan Jennings (hip) – by the end of the game.

The 49ers’ win moves the team back to .500 at 4–4, while the Cowboys return to a losing record of 3–4.

For the second time in two drives, CeeDee Lamb found herself wide open in the end zone late in the Cowboys’ possession. This time it was because two 49ers defenders collided with each other. And on the second straight possession, Dak Prescott found it for a touchdown.

After consecutive Dallas touchdowns, the game suddenly becomes a one-score game. It’s 30-24 49ers with 3:32 left in the game.

The San Francisco star was injured at some point in the fourth quarter, and the 49ers say his return is questionable.

49ers kicker Anders Carlson remained perfect on all kick attempts during “Sunday Night Football,” kicking a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. He’s 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on PATs.

The score is 30-17 49ers with 4:25 remaining.

Dallas cut its deficit to 10 points after failing to close down in the secondary, leaving CeeDee Lamb wide open in the end zone. Dak Prescott made an easy throw and Lamb hauled it in for his third touchdown of the season.

It’s 27-17 49ers with just under eight minutes left in the game.

San Francisco gains momentum in the second half. Brock Purdy rushed up the middle for a touchdown on a 2-yard quarterback sneak to extend the 49ers’ lead to 17 points. Kyle Shanahan’s side rattled off three straight goals to open the third quarter and now hold a three-point lead after trailing at halftime.

It’s 27-10 49ers with 36 seconds left in the third quarter.

San Francisco was able to take full advantage of their good position after Deommodore Lenoir’s interception. Quarterback Brock Purdy hit George Kittle from the right side of the end zone on a touchdown pick. The officials initially threw a flag for offensive pass interference on receiver Chris Conley, but raised it after a short conversation.

Midway through the third quarter, the 49ers lead the Cowboys 20-10.

A week after receiving his first pick of the year against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, Deommodore Lenoir made a dash down the sideline and intercepted Dak Prescott. An excellent play in zone coverage allowed the 49ers to get the ball back at the Dallas 32-yard line with 11:30 left in the third quarter.

The 49ers lead for the first time at 3-0 after rookie running back Isaac Gerendo ran 4 yards up the middle for San Francisco’s first touchdown of the game. Tight end George Kittle helped set up the scoring drive with a 43-yard reception one play earlier.

Two minutes into the second half the score was 13-10 49ers.

San Francisco entered Cowboys territory on their fourth drive of the game, but stopped just outside the red zone. Anders Carlson kicked his second field goal from 44 yards out, cutting his team’s lead to four points.

The score is 10-6 Cowboys with 1:30 left in the first half.

Despite the two-minute warning, the NBC broadcast showed Mason heading back to the 49ers’ locker room with medical personnel. He is being assessed for a shoulder injury and his return is questionable.

Meanwhile, rookie Isaac Guerendo will take over the role of San Francisco’s lead defender.

Brandon Aubrey kicked a 29-yard field goal to cap an eight-play, 46-yard scoring drive that put the Cowboys up by seven with three and a half minutes left in the first half.

Aubrey missed practice the week before Sunday’s game due to jury duty.

On one play, after 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward was flagged for pass interference in the end zone, Ezekiel Elliott took a pass up the middle for a one-yard score. It was the running back’s second touchdown of the season, giving his team a 7–3 lead.

San Francisco would take over after kickoff, about four minutes into the second quarter.

After Mitch Wishnowsky’s hit with three minutes left in the first quarter, Cowboys and 49ers players collided with each other. The players were separated before the larger brawl broke out, but there were two of them, offsetting the unnecessary roughness penalties of one against each team.

Dallas takes over after the punt goes to its own 35 with 2:33 left in the first quarter.

The Cowboys had just entered 49ers territory 10 minutes into the first quarter when Dak Prescott tried to hit KaVontae Turpin with a deep pass down the left sideline. Ji’Ayir Brown, a defensive back, helped cover the ball over the top and cut underneath the shot to deflect it.

San Francisco takes over from its own 8-yard line with 4:27 left in the first quarter.

The 49ers’ first drive of the game stopped at the Cowboys’ 32-yard line, and kicker Anders Carlson was brought in for a 50-yard field goal attempt.

The kick was good and the 49ers took an early lead. The highlight of the seven-play, 55-yard drive was a 47-yard pass from quarterback Brock Purdy to receiver Deebo Samuel.

Carlson, along with cornerback Adrian Amos, were waived from the practice squad for Sunday night’s game. 49ers starter Jake Moody is recovering from a high ankle sprain.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl wins with six.

Pittsburgh and Dallas are unique in that they play each other more times than any other team in Super Bowl history, with three matchups.

The 49ers have made eight Super Bowl appearances and earned five rings, the last of which came in the 1994 season. The Cowboys have five Super Bowl victories, most recently coming in the 1995 season.

Dak Prescott signed a record contract extension with the Cowboys ahead of the NFL season. According to Spotrac.com, the terms of the deal were as follows:

  • Term: 4 years
  • Total cost: $240 million
  • Average Annual Value (AAV): $60 million
  • Guaranteed money: $231 million

The deal was added to the remaining year of a four-year, $160 million contract he signed with the Cowboys ahead of his 2021 free agency announcement. That would tie Prescott to the Cowboys for the 2028 campaign, his age-35 season.
