Suspect taken into custody following deputy-involved chase and shooting at Yancey Co.

YANCEY COUNTY, NC (FOX Carolina) – The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office says the road is closed following a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle Monday.

Deputies said the chase ended in the area near Mountain Heritage High School on US 19E when the vehicle collided with a patrol car.

The deputy began shooting to protect public safety, officials said.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Mission Hospital. No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured, deputies said.

Officials said the road was closed while officers investigated the scene but has reopened to traffic.
