Full list of scrapped Megabus buses across England and Wales

If you’re a mega-fan of Megabus, you may soon need to start looking for alternatives on certain UK routes. The bus service has been offering us super cheap travel for over 20 years and at one point connected over 100 locations across the UK. But as the company struggles to recover from the pandemic, it is forced to make some cuts.

Megabus will significantly reduce bus services from December 4 due to “low passenger demand”. As well as services between Bristol and Plymouth, the company is cutting routes that only operate within England or Wales.

However, all Scottish routes and cross-border services between England, Scotland and Wales will remain the same. This means you can still travel between major cities such as Cardiff, Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds and London on buses that start or finish in Scotland.

Simone Walsh, managing director of Megabus, said: “It is not viable for us to continue operating our current network as customer demand is simply too low.” It is hoped the changes will help Megabus create a “more efficient network in the future”.

Britain by bus

The Megabus news does not mean a complete end to budget bus travel. In fact, fellow bus provider Flixbus recently launched its first accessible bus routes between the UK and Ireland.

In the bus world, we’ve seen Liverpool’s new ‘glider’ buses for the first time, while Manchester is trialling new 24-hour bus services. If you’re looking for breathtaking views on your bus journey, these are the UK’s most scenic bus routes.
