The vehicle was tracked by a police helicopter heading north, believed to be speeding towards the Sunshine Coast, before a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at Cooroy.

A short time later, the Nissan stopped near the Bruce Highway at Cooroy and two occupants, a man and a woman, fled into bushland before being arrested nearby.

The vehicle continued north into Federal before coming to rest in brush off the Old Bruce Highway.

The male driver fled and was arrested nearby around 5:40 p.m.

After the car stopped, it caught fire and caused a subsequent grass fire, which was extinguished by 11 fire crews.
