If you missed it, you can still get it for yourself.

While the most passionate watch collectors and enthusiasts may agree that their love for watchmaking begins with the appearance of a particular watch, it is often the stories associated with it that ignite the passion. Whether it’s a sentimental heirloom with family history or a race-worn watch with a winning past, each one stands out as something far more magnificent than the average wristwatch. Auctioneers at Bonhams know this all too well: the company has just announced the results of the Laureus x IWC Schaffhausen charity auction held in Zurich, which featured a very special IWC worn by Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton’s watch, which sold for a whopping $254,000, was part of his route to a record ninth British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone. Hamilton held the trophy high, wearing an IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team watch on his wrist. Now one lucky winner has the watch Hamilton wore on that unforgettable day, as well as racing gloves signed by the champion himself. All proceeds from the sale went directly to the Swiss Laureus Foundation, contributing to the development of social sports projects in Switzerland. Founded in 2006 by IWC Schaffhausen, Laureus supports more than 20,000 children every year.

The chronograph represents IWC’s ongoing partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1. The 41mm ceratium case combines the lightness of titanium with the durability of ceramic. The black dial with recessed counters and Super-LumiNova details ensures excellent legibility both day and night. The watch is equipped with the IWC in-house caliber 69385 and provides an impressive power reserve of 46 hours. The tinted sapphire caseback showcases the intricate movement. Complete with a black rubber strap and matching ceratium clasp, this watch is a symbol of Hamilton’s perseverance and a rare piece in motorsport history.
